Dr. Steven D. Mason Is Named 7th President Of The Letourneau University

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Steven D. Mason as the 7th president of LeTourneau University. The Board of Trustees is grateful to the Presidential Transition Committee for their excellent work. The Board of Trustees received a unanimous recommendation from the committee and the Board decided by unanimous vote to name Dr. Mason as the next president of LeTourneau University.

Dr. Mason’s presidential selection is the culmination of a thorough review by the Presidential Transition Committee appointed by the Board of Trustees. This review process was designed to validate Dr. Mason’s qualifications and leadership to serve as the next president of LeTourneau University. Dr. Mason is a proven scholar, teacher, pastor, and leader, who has served LeTourneau University with excellence over the past 15 years. As a renowned Old Testament scholar and prolific writer of published works, Dr. Mason has served as a professor and mentor to students at LeTourneau University and has most recently served the university as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2016.

“We are excited to have unanimously selected Dr. Steven D. Mason as the next president of LeTourneau University,” said Bill Anderson, Board Chair. “This decision strategically positions the university for greater success for decades to come,” Anderson said.

Dr. Mason majored in finance and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University in 1998. In 2002, he earned his Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and then a Ph.D. in Old Testament Studies from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 2006. He has multiple published works including the recent short monograph entitled, LeTourneau University as the Christian Polytechnic: Embracing the Saga of Our Unique Organizational Calling.

“I am absolutely honored, humbled, and thrilled to be named president of LeTourneau University,” said Dr. Steven D. Mason, president of LeTourneau University. “I love the mission and history of LeTourneau University. We steward a very important Christian calling for God’s kingdom sake as The Christian Polytechnic University,” Mason said. “I am grateful for this opportunity to serve LeTourneau University’s students, faculty and staff in this new role; indeed, we have got great days ahead,” he said.

Dr. Mason and his wife, Bonnie, will soon celebrate their 22nd wedding anniversary and they have three children, Caroline, William, and Christopher. They are founding members of One Hope Presbyterian Church in Longview, where Dr. Mason serves as an elder. And in his spare time, Dr. Mason enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams.

The selection of a university president is both a transformative and pivotal decision in the life of a university. The Board of Trustees and Presidential Transition Committee embraced this tremendous responsibility with prayer and sought the wisdom and discernment that only comes from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that the university announces Dr. Mason’s appointment as the 7th University President at LeTourneau University. He is the right individual to lead this great university into the future. LeTourneau University’s future is bright and will continue to lead within Christian higher education.
