Al

Alice Cooper

By Glenn Miller

GOD’S WORD: “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.” – 1 Timothy 4:4-5

There is a man in Southern California named Al who is quite the devoted husband, father, and community leader. He takes his daughter shopping, he keeps romance alive in his marriage, he coaches Little League, he’s on the local PTA board, and he even teaches his daughter’s sixth-grade Sunday School class. For all purposes, Al is a great role model.

But what I haven’t told you about Al is that on weekends and a couple of months a year, he travels extensively throughout the world, often taking his family with him. Regardless of his schedule, Al tries to spend as much time with his family as possible, often being home in time to tuck them in and read to them. You see, Al is a musician; a very successful musician, in fact, who has managed his money quite well and has developed admirable business acumen over the years. Yet more than just being a successful father, husband, community leader, musician and businessman, Al is better to known to most of us by another name and still yet another image… rock star Alice Cooper.

There’s quite a difference from the person we see in rock videos and the family-man Alice Cooper. Yet is that unlike any of us? While most of us put on a good and decent public image, our true “authentic self” lies underneath the masks and quite often shows a different character than the one we put on public display.

No matter the masks of our past, no matter how we disguise our failures, no matter how often we fail to hit the mark, God knows who we are and better than that, WHOSE we are. After all, He sees right through our masks and make-up. He sees right down to the core of our being. And there, at those very depths, He finds a reflection of Himself.

We are all warm and wonderful children of God.

Just look behind the masks.
