Inalienable Rights

Inalienable Rights

By Glenn Miller

GOD’S WORD: “See what love the Father has given us that we may be called the children of God. And we are!” – 1 John 3:1

In our nation’s Constitution, citizens of our republic claim certain inalienable rights that we feel we are entitled to as citizens of mankind. We believe these rights are free to all and should not be oppressed from any one person by another. These rights for citizens include the freedom of speech and the freedom to practice and worship God without condemnation. These rights, however, were fought for and defended by many men and women who gave their lives to ensure us of our rights today. As citizens of God’s kingdom, we also have inalienable rights established by God and paid for by the grace of Jesus Christ. What are these rights?

1.  You are beyond condemnation. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” – Romans 8:1

2.  You are a member of His kingdom. “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” – Colossians 1:13

3.  You have been adopted. “For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” – Ephesians 2:18

4.  You will never be abandoned. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

5.  You have an imperishable inheritance. “In His great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5

Perhaps, if you’re like me, there are days that seem to blister with the heat of confusion, doubt, fear and discontentment. At those times, let’s remember that God has chosen us to be His children and, by claiming such an inheritance, we can conquer all things in Christ Jesus. Our God, our Abba Father, is a big Daddy and He can help us through the big problems of life. And we’ll grow not only in His grace and love, but also through all trials and tests. That’s something worth tweeting about!
