Heart and Vascular Institute of Longview Regional Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. David Jayakar, 47th in the nation to receive prestigious award for Excellence in Beating Heart Surgeries.

The Cardiovascular Team at the Heart and Vascular Institute at Longview Regional Medical celebrated a phenomenal achievement, with cardiovascular surgeon Dr. David Jayakar named 47th in the nation to achieve the Diamond Level of the Beating Heart Hall of Fame, completing 1,100+ off-pump coronary artery bypass procedures. The award was presented by Getinge, which provides hospitals and life science institutions with products and solutions aiming to improve clinical results and optimize workflows. Dr. Jayakar is the first surgeon in East Texas to achieve this honor in the “Beating Heart Hall of Fame.”

Beating heart surgery, also known as off-pump surgery, involves performing intricate cardiac procedures without stopping the heart or putting the patient on a heart-lung machine. This innovative approach reduces the risks associated with traditional surgeries, such as stroke, kidney failure, and bleeding, resulting in shorter recovery times and improved patient outcomes.
